Guided quadratic spatial solitons in semiconductor crystals

The possibility to exploit the relatively high second order nonlinear coefficient available in III-V semiconductors is analyzed in the paper. It is shown that in bulk material too high phase mismatch makes technologically impossible to employ these semiconductors because of a necessary prohibitive threshold power. To bypass this problem, the use of a planar waveguide is proposed. It is shown that only for the negative mismatch case (focusing materials) the result is very good, and spatial solitons can be created at any power level.
